Indacaterol + Glycopyrronium is used for the long-term treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease or COPD, a lung disease that makes it hard to breathe.
This medicine helps treat COPD by relaxing airways in your lungs, relieving chest tightness, wheezing and cough so that you can breathe more easily.
Use Indacaterol + Glycopyrronium exactly as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the label. Do not take more or less than instructed by your doctor.
Indacaterol + Glycopyrronium is available as capsules for oral inhalation. Do not swallow the capsule. If you are using the inhaler for the very first time, point the inhaler into the ground and prime until a mist is seen. You should also do this whenever your inhaler has not been used for days.
To take a dose using the inhaler, follow these steps:
- Pull off the cap of the inhaler. To open the inhaler, hold the base of the inhaler firmly and tilt the mouthpiece.
- Immediately before use, remove the capsules from the blister and place it in the capsule chamber.
- Close the inhaler until you hear a clicking sound.
- Hold the inhaler upright and pierce the capsule by pressing the side buttons (located at the base of the inhaler) at the same time. You will hear another clicking sound as the capsule is being pierced. Release the side buttons fully.
- Breathe out, place the mouthpiece in your mouth then breathe in rapidly but steadily and as deeply as you can.
- Hold your breath for 5-10 seconds while taking the inhaler out of your mouth then breathe out.
- Close the inhaler.
- Remove the empty capsule from the chamber then throw it in the household waste.
- Close the inhaler then replace the cap.
Make sure you know how to use the inhaler. If you have problems or if you do not understand the instructions, ask your doctor or pharmacist to show you how to use it.
Indacaterol + Glycopyrronium must be taken regularly for it to be effective. Continue taking this medicine even when you feel better. Do not stop taking it unless instructed by the doctor.
Use the missed dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and return to your normal dosing schedule.
DO NOT double a dose under any circumstances.
If you often forget to use your medicine, let your doctor and pharmacist know.
Alert your doctor if you have asthma and you haven’t use any long-term asthma control medication, as Indacaterol + Glycopyrronium may not be suitable for you.
Inform your doctor if you have the following conditions:
- heart disease e.g. high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, heart failure
- diabetes
- thyroid disorder e.g. overactive thyroid gland
- epilepsy (fits or seizures)
- low levels of potassium in the blood
- increased pressure in the eye (glaucoma)
- problems passing urine
- liver disease
- kidney disease
Let your doctor know if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Indacaterol + Glycopyrronium will not relieve sudden (acute) asthma attacks. Your doctor will provide you another medicine for this.
Keep your appointments with your doctor. Your doctor needs to monitor your condition and check your response to the medication regularly. Your doctor may also need to do routine blood tests (e.g. blood potassium, blood sugar) and lung function tests while you are being treated with this medicine.
Indacaterol + Glycopyrronium may cause dizziness. If affected, do not drive or take part in any activity in which you need to be alert.
Other side effects include any of the following: headache, diarrhoea, runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, pressure or pain in the sinuses, cough, indigestion, difficulty urinating, fever, chest pain, back pain and joint pain.
Some side effects may need immediate medical help. Alert your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following:
- pain or tightness of chest
- breathlessness
- coughing or wheezing
Inform your doctor if any of these side effects do not go away or are severe, or if you experience other side effects.
Inform your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any of these medicines:
- other similar medicines for breathing problems e.g. arformoterol, formoterol, indacaterol, salmeterol, vilanterol
- medicines for heart disease or high blood pressure e.g. atenolol, bisoprolol, carvedilol, propanolol, labetalol
- medicines for glaucoma (increased pressure in the eye) e.g. timolol
- diuretics or “water pills” e.g. etacrynate, furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide, indapamide
This list does not include all medicines that may interact with Indacaterol + Glycopyrronium.
Always notify your doctor and pharmacist if you are taking any other medicines, including herbal tonics such as traditional Chinese medicines, supplements and medicines that you buy without a prescription.
Avoid alcohol.
Store in a cool, dry place away from the reach of children.
Medicines must not be used past the expiry date.
